Gladys Speedie may be 90 years old, but that hasn’t slowed her down. In fact, she’s just completed an incredible feat – ziplining 100ft above the Clyde to raise money for a Glasgow charity. Despite many people being nervous at the thought of hurtling through the sky, Gladys said she wasn’t afraid. In fact, she described the experience as “exciting, exhilarating, and whoopee!”
The charity in question is Glasgow-based charity, Scottish Huntington’s Association. This is a cause that’s particularly close to Gladys’ heart because her son, Philip, passed away from the disease. Huntington’s is a progressive neurological condition that affects a person’s ability to walk, talk, and think. There is no cure, but the Scottish Huntington’s Association provides valuable support to those who suffer from the disease and their families.
Gladys’ zipline challenge was a massive success. She started the day off hoping to raise £500 for Scottish Huntington’s Association, but ended up raising an incredible £1,350. She also praised her fellow zipliners for their support, saying that everyone was cheering each other on.
It’s amazing to see someone like Gladys taking on such a daring challenge in the name of charity. Her courage and fundraising efforts will make a huge difference in the lives of those suffering from Huntington’s disease. Let’s hope that this will inspire others to take on their own challenges for great causes
