Samantha Fox, a former model and singer, appeared in court after being removed from a British Airways flight for drunken behavior. She was charged with being drunk and disorderly, as well as using threatening behavior and causing harassment, alarm, or distress to a police constable. In addition, Fox reportedly threatened to knock out the police officer’s teeth after being removed from the plane.
According to the prosecution, staff members onboard the flight had observed that Fox was walking and behaving strangely, slurring her words, and smelling like alcohol. She behaved confrontationally towards her wife, Linda Olsen, and began to rock back and forth in her chair, headbutting the seat in front of her. An argument ensued and police were called to remove Fox from the aircraft.
Alastair Smith, who represented Fox, stated that his client had bought two drinks at the airport to calm her nerves as she was suffering from severe anxiety. He admitted that she should not have taken any flights due to her incapacitated state, and that she should have canceled her commitments.
The court sentenced Fox to a £1,000 fine and a 12-month community order, including up to 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days. She was also ordered to pay £1,718 to British Airways for the cost incurred by the airline due to the incident. As a result of the incident, the flight, which had 162 adults and four children on board, was delayed for 12 hours, and 42 passengers claimed compensation
