James Cameron reveals official title of ‘Avatar 3’

At the D23 biennial convention for members of the official Disney fan club, director James Cameron revealed the official title for Avatar 3, along with “cool concept art.” The film will be titled Avatar: Fire And Ash and is set for release on December 19, 2025, following the release of Avatar in 2009, and Avatar: The Way Of Water in 2022. Cameron told the 12,000-strong audience that the new film is “not what you expect, but definitely what you want,” and that it will feature new characters, cultures, settings, and creatures.

During his appearance, Cameron shared that the new film is still in production and it was “too soon” to share any footage. He did, however, provide the audience with cool concept art that featured characters in the sky surrounded by fire. Cameron also promised that audiences will see a lot more of Pandora, the planet, that they’ve never seen before.

According to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, Cameron has a nine-hour long director’s cut of the forthcoming sequel in the works, which he could potentially turn into a Disney+ limited series. Sneider added, “The idea is that Cameron would do all the visual effects for his nine-hour cut of Avatar 3 and then release it on Disney+ as a limited series after the theatrical cut is released.” However, Sneider cautioned that this could potentially change.

Two sequels are set to follow Avatar 3, which will be released in 2026 and 2028, respectively. Cameron previously announced that he was planning four sequels to the franchise, but this was later reduced to three. Avatar, which is the highest-grossing film of all time, pulled in over $2.7 billion worldwide
