John Legend has teamed up with Sufjan Stevens for his new children’s album. The album, called ‘My Favourite Dream’, is a compilation of sing-alongs and lullabies for children and families. Inspired by his own experience of being a father of four children with his wife Chrissie Tiegan, the album features nine original songs, three covers of Fisher-Price songs and three bonus tracks. A lead single entitled ‘L-O-V-E’, which also features vocals from Legend’s two oldest children, was released on Friday 9th August.

Stevens, who produced the album, was Legend’s first and only choice for bringing the songs to life. “I just felt [Stevens’] musical approach would be perfect for building arrangements and soundscapes to complement the songs,” Legend said. The pair also united for the lead single L-O-V-E with the assistance of vocals from Stevie’s daughter Luna.

Music is important in Legend’s and Chrissy Teigen’s home. His parents used to sing around the house, and they also enjoy singing to their children, interacting and communicating with them through music.

In other news, The Illinois musical, directed, choreographed and co-written by Justin Peck for Sufjan Stevens, wrapped up on August 10th after a 16-week run. The 90-minute show is based on Stevens’ 2005 concept album ‘Illinois’. It previously ran at Bard College’s Fisher Center in New York and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Stevens lost his beloved partner, Evans Richardson, in 2018. His album Javelin, which he released in October of that year, paid tribute to Richardson. The album was also named by NME critics as one of the best albums of the year.

While reviewing Stevens’ ‘Illinois’ in 2005, NME called it “his masterpiece so far; a staggering collection of unspeakably precious music.” Stevens’ latest album, ‘Javelin’, was released in October 2018 and was his 10th full-length release
