Sister of Bebe King witnessed Southport knife attack

The parents of Bebe King have shared that their eldest daughter witnessed the attack that resulted in the devastating death of the six-year-old in Southport. In a released tribute via Merseyside Police, Lauren and Ben King described Bebe as being “full of joy, light and love”. Bebe lost her life alongside two other young girls, Alice da Silva Aguiar (nine) and Elsie Dot Stancome (seven), after a knife-wielding attacker stormed a Taylor Swift-themed holiday club event on 29 July.

Since that tragic day in July, Mr. and Mrs. King have expressed their gratitude for the extraordinary strength and courage shown by their older daughter, Genie. Their statement also expressed that Genie’s resilience is owed to an impenetrable love and bond with Bebe. The King family thanked the Southport community and beyond for the “outpouring of love and support” they have received during this “unimaginably difficult time”.

In a highly emotional statement by Bebe’s parents, they noted that they no longer feel whole and that their lives would be forever scarred. They shared their appreciation for the touching remembrances of Bebe through the pink bows, flowers, balloons, cards, and candles left in her memory. The love and kindness of their community gave them some comfort, and they thanked everyone in Southport, Liverpool, and beyond for their support since the tragedy occurred.

A memorial service was held for Alice at Southport’s St Patrick’s Church on Tuesday, and her funeral is due to take place on Sunday. On behalf of her family, during the memorial, one speaker fought back tears as she described Alice as “the most beautiful, strongest girl in the world” and wished for her to keep smiling and dancing. Before her death, Elsie had been learning to sew her own tops, and her great-aunt, Jean Stevenson, fondly remembers the joy it brought her.
