Ed Kelce, the father of NFL player Travis Kelce, has criticized Kanye West for his latest song, ‘LIFESTYLE (Demo),’ featuring a Lil Wayne guest verse that references Travis’ relationship with Taylor Swift. The song is featured on the new Vultures 2 LP by West and Ty Dolla $ign, which was released last Saturday.
Ed Kelce reacted to the track by re-sharing an article about it that was headlined, “Kanye West mentions Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce in Vultures 2 track,” on his Facebook page and commented on the rapper’s mental illness. West has been previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has faced challenges with his mental health in the past.
This is not the first time West has mentioned Taylor Swift in one of his songs. Back in 2016, he referenced Swift and their 2009 VMAs altercation in his song “Famous” and rapped: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous (Goddamn) / I made that bitch famous.”
Swift representatives went on to refute the claim that she approved the track, with them releasing an official statement that read: “Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous.’”
NME reviewed ‘Vultures 1’ with a two-star rating back in March, and though the album is more cohesive than ‘Donda’, it is still far from one of West’s best efforts. ‘Vultures 1’ includes well-curated guest spots from Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, and India Love, with Ty Dolla $ign sounding spectacular on the record too
