David Gilmour has recently unveiled a new track titled ‘Dark And Velvet Nights’ which will be featured in his upcoming album. The album, ‘Luck and Strange’, will be released on September 6. This album will mark Gilmour’s first release of fresh material in nine years.
The track is a groovy rock number and has been written by Gilmour and his wife Polly Samson. It serves as a backdrop to their love story. Directed by Gavin Elder, the music video features Gilmour playing the song with his band.
In a statement made about the track, Gilmour said: “The music sprang out one day. It was so exciting to have come across this groove. Polly had given me a beautiful poem for our wedding anniversary, which was sitting on the desk right next to me, so I picked it up and sang it on the track, to hear what it would sound like with words…”
The musician will be performing a series of concerts this year, which will mark his return to performing after a gap of eight years. These shows will include five nights of performances at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the complete list of tour dates can be accessed on the NME website. Gilmour has expressed his contentment with how the album turned out, claiming that the music is some of the “best” he has made since the release of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ over 50 years ago
