A brand-new Banksy piece in Peckham, London was stolen just hours after being unveiled. The artwork featured a silhouette of a wolf howling at the moon, painted on a satellite dish above a shop on Rye Lane. It’s believed that the piece was stolen by a group of masked men, as per Banksy’s press team and the authorities. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no arrests have been made as of yet.

This is the fourth Banksy artwork to emerge in London within a few days, featuring painted animal silhouettes on the side of buildings and train bridges around the city. The Rye Lane artwork was confirmed on Banksy’s official Instagram page, with photographs of the painting in both daylight and nighttime.

In a video shared by the BBC, several masked men seem to remove the satellite dish from the roof with the help of ladders before taking it away. It’s worth noting that Banksy’s artwork has previously been stolen on several other occasions, with early instances as far back as 2007, when a piece was removed from the side of a London building and auctioned off.

Last year in Peckham, a Banksy worth roughly £500,000 was stolen just an hour after it was authenticated. The authorities are still searching for the missing piece, and two men supposedly linked to the theft were re-bailed in February 2024.
