Bob Dylan surprised fans during an Outlaw Music Festival touring stop in Boise, Idaho, playing ‘Rainy Day Women #12 & 35’ for the first time since 2016. The iconic song, which opens his 1966 album ‘Blonde on Blonde’, includes the chorus “everybody must get stoned.” Earlier in the tour, Dylan had been incorporating obscure reworks into old standards, but he is now delving back into his own catalogue to keep his setlists unpredictable. At the same concert, Dylan’s track ‘Spirit on the Water’ was back on the setlist for the first time since 2018.
Dylan kicked off the ‘Outlaw Music Festival Tour’ with a typically unpredictable setlist that included versions of Willie Dixon’s ‘My Babe’, Chuck Berry’s ‘Little Queenie,’ and Hank Williams’ ‘Cold, Cold Heart’, as well as four songs from his own 2012 album ‘Tempest.’ He also announced his own UK headline tour for later in the year, beginning at BIC Windsor Hall in Bournemouth on November 1 and including a trio of shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Dylan will play 10 UK shows on his ongoing ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways’ world tour, with other cities and towns including Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Wolverhampton. The use of cameras and mobile phones will be prohibited at the concerts, and tickets are still available to buy here.
In related news, the Timothée Chalamet-starring biopic of Bob Dylan, titled ‘A Complete Unknown,’ will hit cinemas this winter. The film will explore Dylan’s transition to using the electric guitar in the ’60s, his rise to fame, and his subsequent achievement of icon status in the folk-rock music industry. Chalamet had worked closely with Dylan’s music in preparation for the role, as well as training to sing like him with the team that assisted Austin Butler in preparing for his role as Elvis Presley in the upcoming Elvis biopic
