The Dare, also known as Harrison Smith, has released his latest single ‘You’re Invited’ along with its music video, marking his third preview of upcoming album ‘What’s Wrong With New York’. Following the release of his debut single ‘Girls’ in August 2022 and ‘Perfume’ in June, the artist and DJ’s new track incorporates funky bass and ‘ooohs’ alluding to the 2000s sound. The album, due on September 6 via Republic Records, was written by Smith in collaboration with Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs, Emile Haynie of Lana Del Rey, FKA Twigs and Dua Lipa, and others.

Last year, The Dare provided his expertise in producing Charli XCX’s song ‘Guess’, which also featured Billie Eilish. In addition, the artist also made an appearance in the music video for the track that saw the stars donate 10,000 pairs of pants. The Dare’s album release points to a rave reception from the New York music scene, especially as the artist is a resident DJ at Home Sweet Home and he has built his community on the foundation of straight-up vibing, attracting influences of late-night misadventures.

As part of a feature in exploring essential artists reinvigorating New York’s music scene in NME, the publication describes The Dare’s music as “shamelessly extols the joys of late night misadventures, whilst recalling the ghosts of early LCD Soundsystem and bloghouse through electroclash sounds and yelped vocals.” The publication also notes the artist roots in the city’s nightlife scene, which has made finding joy and building a community a priority for The Dare in his music.
