Selena Gomez has revealed that she was moved to tears when listening to Meryl Streep sing on the set of Only Murders in the Building. The singer recently received her first-ever Emmy nomination for her role in the programme’s final season. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez discussed her nomination and what it was like working with Streep. “She’s an inspiration, and she’s someone who is incredibly talented while being very humble, professional, and kind,” she said. “I’ve learned so much from her just by her being Meryl.” Gomez went on to say that the moment that stirred the most emotion was “watching Meryl sing onstage”.

Streep joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building in the third season, playing the role of Broadway star Loretta Durkin. She is set to star in the upcoming fourth season. In it, Gomez also sings and dances, although she was initially hesitant. “I tried to get away with not doing it, but they really wanted a little thing,” she explains. “I just didn’t feel like it was my character.” However, in the end, she enjoyed performing the number.

Gomez also spoke about what fans can expect from season four. “I think this is our most exciting season yet,” she said. “That’s what I would definitely say with confidence, because it was far too fun. How it came together was so magical. Everyone had a blast. And people are in for a ride, you know. Taking us to LA and then doing all the other stuff is exciting. It’s going to be, to date, probably my favourite season.”

Last May, Gomez won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in the Spanish movie Emilia Pérez.
