The Spellow Hub Library on Walton Road was vandalized over the weekend, resulting in an outpouring of support from individuals and organizations around the country. Councillor Ruth Bennett, Cabinet Member for Finances, Resources and Transformation, expressed her gratitude for the generosity of residents and partners who have provided everything from cash donations to help replace destroyed books and IT equipment to offers of building spaces so that community services can continue despite the damage.
“We have been overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and generosity of people from Liverpool and beyond,” Bennett said. “It shows the very best of humanity. We are working hard behind the scenes to create a system that will enable us to accept help and donations in the coming days and weeks.”
The response has been heartening to officials and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to restore the library and its services. Though the road has been long and the damage significant, the support of others has provided much-needed strength to carry on. Bennett took a moment to thank all those who have reached out so far.
“On behalf of the city – thank you. It is deeply appreciated and humbling,” she said.
As the people of Liverpool come together to support this beloved community resource, the library’s staff continue to take steps forward in the rebuilding process. The road ahead may be challenging, but with such a strong foundation of support, there’s no obstacle they can’t overcome
