​Beloved Chicago house producer DANNN has died

Chicago house producer DANNN, whose real name was Daniel Brookman, has passed away. According to Resident Advisor, Brookman’s death was announced by a family member, and the exact cause of his death remains unknown. A musician who was known for his eclectic output of music, Brookman’s style spanned across genres, including Chicago house, R&B, and experimental dance music. He had released his debut album called “Interludes” in 2013 and went on to release music on several record labels including Trax Couture and Local Action.

Aside from his music, Brookman was also famous for his collaboration with Hidden Dog, a Chicago-based arts and venue centre. He worked to bring artists like Hudson Mohawke, Kelela, and fka twigs to the venue. Brookman was also an avid video game fan and took inspiration from games like Mega Man Battle Network and The Legend of Zelda.

Brookman had contributed to Ariel Zetina’s groundbreaking debut album “Cyclorama”, with his collaborative track “Smooch Track” remixed and featured in Local Action’s remix pack. The latest album released under his name was titled “The Slightest Dreadful Electricity,” which featured 13 tracks, and it was released on July 31, 2024. Brookman announced the album’s release on his Instagram account on the same day.

Brookman’s contributions to the music industry have been recognized by many known artists like Ariel Zetina, DJ Swisha, and Nikki Nair amongst others. The music industry has lost an incredibly talented musician, and his legacy is sure to live on
