Laura Whitmore, the former host of Love Island, has revealed that concerns she had while taking part in Strictly Come Dancing are now emerging. In an interview with The Irish Times, Whitmore stated that she had been manipulated to accept behaviour that was inappropriate. Recently, several celebrities have come forward to discuss their own negative experiences of the show.
Whitmore, whose professional partner was the dancer Giovanni Pernice, described the show as leaving her “broken” and crying regularly. She pointed out that this was exacerbated by the portrayal of her as “blonde bait in a sequinned dress”. Although she raised concerns at the time, she was not satisfied with the response received from the programme’s production team. The revelations from Whitmore come after a series of allegations about Pernice’s behaviour have been made.
The compere revealed her involvement through an Instagram story on the popular social media platform. During her statement, Whitmore stated that she had been requested to provide evidence of her experiences to the production team. As yet, it is not known whether the individual referred to by Whitmore is Pernice himself or another person involved in the making of the programme.
The BBC has commenced a major review of Strictly Come Dancing following the emergence of claims that some celebrities had suffered mistreatment whilst participating in the show.
