Ryan Reynolds responds to Jamie Lee Curtis apology over Marvel comments

Actor Ryan Reynolds has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Jamie Lee Curtis’ comments about Marvel. Curtis recently issued an apology on social media after referring to Marvel as “bad” in an MTV interview. In her tweet, Curtis expressed regret for her comments and promised to no longer engage in “toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content”. Reynolds responded to the situation with a humorous tweet, asking if everyone is expected to apologize for slamming Marvel after Avengers: Endgame.

This isn’t the first time that Curtis has taken a shot at Marvel. In a 2022 Instagram post promoting her film Everything Everywhere All At Once, she wrote that the movie “COST LESS than the ENTIRE craft service budget on Doctor Strange and/or any other Marvel movie.” Earlier this year, Lindsay Lohan confirmed that she and Curtis will reprise their roles for Freaky Friday 2, but a release date has not yet been announced.

In NME’s review of Deadpool & Wolverine, the writer questioned where the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes from here, but predicted that it will likely keep going thanks to an “endless loop of multiverse MacGuffins”. The movie is also noted for being the one to “start dancing on the grave first – to a Madonna song”, if the superhero era is truly winding down.

Despite the controversy, Marvel continues to be one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, with a devoted fanbase and a number of highly anticipated upcoming releases. Only time will tell if this latest scandal will have any impact on the brand’s overall popularity
