In a show of solidarity with those impacted by the recent tragedy in Southport, Liverpool will join forces with other nearby areas to illuminate public buildings and landmarks. This display is meant to serve as a mark of respect for those affected by the tragic incidents. Starting from August 2nd and running until the 4th, buildings including Liverpool Town Hall, St George’s Hall, and the Cunard Building will light up in pink alongside The Atkinson building located in Southport. Other structures included are hospitals, Chester Town Hall, and the Mersey Gateway Bridge.
Sefton Council has made the decision to invite other privately and publicly owned buildings from around the Northwest to illuminate. This move is meant to show support and help unite communities, offering up a display of peace, solidarity, and remembrance during testing times. The Community Foundation for Merseyside, Sefton CVS, and Sefton Council have activated an emergency fundraising appeal that aims to help all those affected by the recent tragic incident in Southport.
The Southport Strong Together Appeal, activated in partnership with Sefton Council and Sefton CVS, hopes to meet the immediate and long-term needs of those affected by the knife attack in Southport. Liverpool ONE Foundation currently leads the way with a £50,000 donation to the fundraising appeal. The donation gifts received aimed at Southport Strong Together Appeal will go towards helping the bereaved, the survivors, and their families get the support they need.
