BBC news presenter Huw Edwards was arrested in November 2023 on suspicion of serious charges, the corporation said in a statement following his guilty plea for making indecent images of children. Edwards was suspended from his role in July 2024 following allegations he had paid a young person for sexually explicit images. The Metropolitan Police found no evidence of criminal behaviour in relation to those allegations. The BBC said it was “made aware in confidence” of Edwards’ arrest in November 2023 and if he had been charged while still employed by the broadcaster, he would have been dismissed. The news came on the same day as the BBC’s annual report revealed Edwards received between £475,000-£479,999 between April 2023 and April 2024.
