Actress Erica Ash has died at the age of 46 following a long battle with cancer. The news was confirmed by her publicist to The Hollywood Reporter. Ash was known for her appearances in Scary Movie franchise, and for starring in comedy sketch shows. Her family released a statement saying she would live on in their hearts and that she was an “amazing woman” who had “touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor and genuine zest for life.”
Ash was born in Florida in 1977 and grew up in Atlanta. She had a breakthrough role in The Big Gay Sketch Show which aired from 2006-2008, and later starred in MADtv. Her impressions of Michelle Obama and Whoopi Goldberg gained her fame in the industry. Ash played Mary Charles Calloway during all four seasons of Survivor’s Remorse and later starred as Kevin Hart’s ex-partner in Real Husbands Of Hollywood.
Ash also appeared in feature films during her career, including Scary Movie 5 in 2013, Uncle Drew in 2018 and Violet in 2021, which starred Olivia Munn and Justin Theroux. She was set to star alongside David Harbour and Anthony Mackie in upcoming supernatural horror film We Have A Ghost.
Loni Love, a comedian, talk show host and personal friend of Ash, paid tribute on social media saying she was “sad to confirm my friend and fellow actress Erica Ashe’s passing.” Love went on to say Ash was “talented and hilarious” and always gave her all to her work. “Whether it was the show Survivor’s Remorse or Madtv, she would put her all into her work. She would always just be there.. now she’s gone…My sincere condolences to her family,” Love added
