A stabbing incident resulting in multiple injuries has led to the detention of a man by police in Southport. Reports suggest that a “number of casualties” were affected in the Hart Street area at approximately 11:50 BST. The armed police are said to have confiscated a knife and taken the suspect, without incident, into custody.
Merseyside Police confirmed that a major incident had occurred and they had received reports of the stabbing that resulted in a swift response from emergency services including the North West Ambulance Service, which dispatched multiple personnel to help assess the situation and assist casualties.
While the situation is contained, a woman living in the area has suggested that local residents are panicking and deeply worried, with messages circulating via social media of a man running around, stabbing people. Officials have made it clear, however, that there is no wider threat to the public.
