Selby: Two men dead after light aircraft's 'serious incident'

Police have confirmed that two men have died as a result of a light aircraft crash in a remote North Yorkshire village. The passengers of the two-seater plane were both in their 20s, and it’s believed that one was the pilot whilst the other was a passenger. The emergency services were alerted to the crash in Thorganby, Selby early on Sunday morning around 9.50am. The next of kin of the two men have been informed, although formal identification is currently taking place.

It is understood that both North Yorkshire Police and the Air Accident Investigation Branch are now involved in investigating the incident. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also sent to the village to respond to the accident. A spokesperson has confirmed that multiple resources were sent to the crash site.

It is not currently known whether the aircraft experienced any difficulties prior to the crash landing or what could have caused the in-flight accident. Families and friends of the men involved are understandably in shock and are receiving support from both the local community and the authorities involved.

BBC Yorkshire will be following the story and keeping readers informed via their social media channels. Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact the authorities in order to assist with the investigation
