The brand new collaboration between Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll has been accompanied by an official music video. ‘Lonely Road’ makes reference to a John Denver classic and was two years in the making. Kelly explained how the ambitious project had involved eight different studios across four countries and making four different key changes. The song deals with the issue of alcohol and how it is used to fill a void left when the two singers are far from home. The music video takes a deep dive into personal topics such as fertility issues and having to rely on a life of crime to support loved ones.
Directed by Sam Cahill, the video features both Jelly Roll and Kelly in roles as downtrodden mechanics. Also included in the performance are their partners, Megan Fox and Bunnie XO. Kelly resorts to bank robbery to help support his pregnant wife, while Jelly Roll refuses to get involved in any illegal activity. It has been a massive effort for the two artists, whose careers have both taken an upswing recently. The music video touches on the issue of infertility, which will be relatable to both the couples who star in it.
Kelly is keen to broaden his repertoire and is currently making forays into country music. Last month he released a cover of Zach Bryan’s ‘Sun To Me’. He has also created a song acknowledging Fox’s recent experience of pregnancy loss in ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ where he raps about not being up-close when they lost the baby: “This psychiatrist keeps evaluating / How can I live with the fact / That my hand wasn’t on her stomach when we lost the baby”.
The two musicians’ previous collaboration was at CMA Fest last June. Despite a troubled beginning, the pair have developed into great friends. In posts on their social media accounts the pair heap praise on each other’s development as musicians, comment on their progress as creators over the past decade and acknowledge that they have not always seen each other eye-to-eye
