Celine Dion made a stunning comeback during the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, delivering an emotional rendition of Edith Piaf’s ‘L’Hymne A L’Amour’. Her triumphant performance was watched by viewers from around the world, marking her first live appearance since she revealed she had stiff person syndrome (SPS).

Reflecting on the moment, Dion took to Twitter to express her gratitude for being able to perform once again. “I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities! Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance,” she wrote.

Dion’s fans were overjoyed to see her back on stage after her last performance in 2020 in New York, which was followed by the cancellation of her world tour due to her condition. The illness affects the brain and spinal cord, causing muscle stiffness, posture problems, sensory issues, and painful spasms. In her documentary, ‘I Am: Celine Dion’, she opened up about its impact on her voice, saying, “I can’t use my voice yet…Music…I miss it a lot. But also, the people. I miss them.”

Although it was widely speculated that Dion and Lady Gaga would perform a duet of ‘La Vie En Rose’, they each took to the stage separately. Lady Gaga’s performance of ‘Mon truc en plumes’ set the tone perfectly for Dion’s incredible return to the spotlight under the Eiffel Tower.

Dion’s fans have been blown away by her incredible performance at the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. “The world was listening to you, Celine Dion, and we were all blown away. You will always be famous,” wrote one Twitter user, while others expressed their excitement at being able to hear her sing again. It was a truly momentous occasion, showcasing Dion’s talent, strength, and enduring spirit
