The popular series, Missing Or Murdered, has been given a larger platform in the UK through streaming on Netflix. The TV series premiered originally on Channel 5 in 2019 and featured three unsolved missing person cases from different periods from 1988 to 2009 in three installments.
The three cases examined in the show include the disappearances of Lee Boxell, who was 15 years old at the time of his disappearance in September 1988, Luke Durbin, who was 19 years old when he disappeared in May 2006, and Claudia Lawrence, who was 35 years old when she went missing in March 2009.
As of July 26, all three episodes are available for streaming on Netflix. Lee Boxell’s case, which has been unsolved for over 35 years, included new evidence that has led to a police appeal for more information along with a £20,000 reward.
The documentary has shed light on the cases and continues to offer new information on the investigation into the missing people. The case of Claudia Lawrence, who was last seen in 2009 and was reported missing after she didn’t show up for work, has now been treated as a murder investigation.
Following the original airing of Missing Or Murdered, Claudia’s father, Peter, passed away at the age of 74 in 2021. Her mother, Joan, has discussed the case in an interview on the podcast Answers For Claudia with journalist Tom McDermott. The podcast mentions that Joan has been approached by numerous amateur detectives who have come up with their own theories surrounding her daughter’s disappearance. McDermott also shares that these encounters have been distressing for Joan.
These cases show the need for continued awareness of missing person cases and the importance of never giving up the search for answers. The Missing Or Murdered series has provided a platform for these stories and serves as a reminder to viewers to stay vigilant and always speak up if they have any information regarding missing persons
