To celebrate its 170th anniversary, St George’s Hall in Liverpool is inviting a host of talented performers to take centre stage in its iconic spaces. Culture Liverpool and the St George’s Hall team have curated a programme of events that will run from August until September, featuring a range of acts from comedians to singer-songwriters spanning a variety of genres such as jazz and rock’n’roll. Thousands of people have already enjoyed EONARIUM Enlightenment in the Great Hall, which brings Vivaldi’s Four Seasons to life in a breathtaking audio-visual extravaganza and continues until 29 September. The rest of the programme will take over the Concert Room from 1 August.
The Jacaranda’s Rock N’ Roll Circus kicks off the programme on 1 August, featuring some of the greatest hits from the 50s to the 80s with Liverpool talent including Paul Nazole and Kenny Stuart. Comedy in the Concert Room on 2 August features award-winning comedian Sam Avery, while The Narrative on 6 August offers a songwriter showcase with ZUZU, KOF and MT Jones sharing the stories behind their songs. The Wombat Jazz Festival on 1 September demonstrates the city’s finest jazz talent over the course of the day, with Andrew Ibi providing bucketloads of vinyl jazz education while legendary band The Grapes Band perform with guest vocalist Ni Maxine.
Cllr Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, was enthusiastic about the SGH170 programme, rightly calling the pairing of St George’s Hall and culture “iconic”. He praised Liverpool’s musical prowess, pointing out that the festival is a chance to enjoy talent from the city while shouting about what makes it special. Doyle hoped that the people who helped fund the Hall would be proud to see it still fulfilling its original need.
Veso Mihaylov, Head of Events at Jacaranda Records, said he was “super excited” to play a part in the anniversary celebrations, adding that the magnificent architecture of St George’s Hall makes it one of Liverpool’s biggest landmarks.
