French metal band Gojira has been confirmed to be performing at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Le Parisien and Time Out have both reported that the band will play on July 26, collaborating with opera singer Marina Viotti in their performance. Although it’s unclear whether frontman Joe Duplantier will be duetting with Viotti or not, the Gojira’s performance is expected to introduce something new to the crowd. Lady Gaga and Celine Dion were also confirmed to be performing a duet of Edith Piaf classic ‘La Vie En Rose’ together on the same night.
For Dion, this would be her first time performing in over four years after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome – a rare, chronic neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and intense spasms. She was expected to embark on a world tour last year but had to cancel scheduled dates due to the condition. The much anticipated occasion would be her first opportunity to sing after such a long break.
Gojira is expected to appear in multiple stages and locations all over the world before the opening ceremony on July 26. They will be appearing at KoRn’s 30th-anniversary stadium show, which will take place at Los Angeles’ BMO stadium on October 5. They will be performing alongside Evanescence, Scars On Broadway, Spiritbox, Vended, and Daron Malakian.
It’s worth noting that French Afrobeats star Aya Nakamura is also rumored to appear but has sparked a far-right row. Despite this, the ceremony slated for 26 July promises to be thrilling, embracing the diverse arts and culture within the country. Fans of Gojira and those looking to watch the ceremonies can look forward to the event with high expectations
