Ice Spice teases “crazy” and “risky” plan after releasing debut album ‘Y2K’

New York rapper Ice Spice is set to release her debut album ‘Y2K’ on 26 July and has teased that fans can expect something “kind of crazy” from her after the release. During an interview on Capital XTRA Breakfast, the artist also spoke of her nerves ahead of the full record drop and her excitement for the album to be out in the world. While explaining that she had “been working on it for like a year,” she further revealed that she wishes to do something kind of risky, although undecided of what it could be yet.

Ice Spice, real name Isis Naija Gaston, mentioned that her new single ‘Did it First’ featuring Central Cee was different, owing to the UK accents and racing energy. She said that she “just loved the UK and people from here.” Her earlier collaboration with PinkPantheress on the previous year’s track ‘Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2’ also stood out for their just different vibe. Ice Spice is set to embark on a North American headline tour starting next week.

‘Y2K’ will follow the rapper’s EP, ‘Like..?’ released in January 2023, in which she featured viral hits including ‘Munch (Feelin’ U)’ and ‘In Ha Mood’. The album features collaborations with Grimes, Rubi Rose, Rico Nasty and other artists. NME awarded her previous release four stars, with Thomas Smith praising Ice Spice’s sardonic delivery and level-headed confidence, saying that “casual listeners and even some fans remain fickle” after her breakout viral success.
