Actress Aubrey Plaza was spotted using crutches at the 2024 WNBA All-Star weekend in Phoenix, Arizona, after tearing her ACL while playing basketball. The Parks and Recreation star sat courtside on Sunday to watch the game with Megan Rapinoe and ex-WNBA player Sue Bird. They were seen on camera tying Plaza’s shoe. Team WNBA scored a 117-109 victory over Team USA.
It was not the first time Plaza had injured her ACL, as she had previously sprained it during a recreational basketball game in Los Angeles. Photos from the weekend show her icing her knee, having it examined by a trainer and using crutches. “@wnba ALL STAR WEEKEND. How it started…how it went… Nothing can stop us!” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Thank you @wnba for hosting such an amazing weekend and taking such good care of me and my busted knee. Such a great game. See you in Paris (no).”
In other news, Plaza addressed the negative speculation surrounding Francis Ford Coppola’s forthcoming film, Megalopolis, in May. The Godfather director, who struggled to get funding for the film, has faced numerous speculative reports about his on-set behavior. “I would defend Francis all day long, but he doesn’t need my defense,” said Plaza, who plays journalist Wow Platinum in the movie alongside Adam Driver and Shia LaBeouf. “I think when you’re on the inside of it, and you know what’s really going down, it’s almost like, ‘Let them make up their stories and let them cause a big ruckus about it. Why not? Drum up some more attention for the movie.’ I think it ends up, in my mind, all working for the movie.
