£25.49A 15-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in Hackney, east London on Tuesday, according to the Metropolitan Police. Officers were called to Stoke Newington at 4:05 pm, where they discovered the teenager with stab wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, whilst the suspect fled and is yet to be identified. The Met has urged anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area to come forward.
The area’s residents are reportedly “deeply concerned” by the incident. A close-knit community, one of the estate’s long-term residents expressed his fear and shock. Dean Hanmore claimed that the increase in violent incidents in the area over the past six to ten years was concerning and that “something’s got to be done”. Police have launched an investigation and increased their presence in the area.
Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, described the incident as “devastating news” and has urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the authorities. The victim’s death takes the total number of teenagers killed in homicides in London to eight this year.
Last year, 21 teenagers lost their lives to violence in London. Although this was a rise from 14 in 2022, it is a fall from the record number of deaths seen in 2021 when 30 teenagers were killed in London.
