Burna Boy announces livestream of KOKO gig celebrating ‘African Giant’

Nigerian singer Burna Boy teamed up with YouTube to live stream a one-off concert in London celebrating the fifth anniversary of his album ‘African Giant’. The 1000-capacity concert took place on July 15 at KOKO in Camden, where Burna Boy performed songs from his fourth album and debut single ‘Like To Party’, and ‘Higher’, his latest single. This performance followed his historic debut at Glastonbury and his second sold-out gig at the London Stadium.

He performed with a live band and string quartet for 45 minutes, playing big hits from ‘African Giant’, such as ‘Gum Body’, ‘Dangote’, and ‘Gbona.’ Burna Boy opted to not perform ‘Ye’ and rather prioritised songs “which [he] never gets to play live”. Burna Boy said in a press release, “Celebrating the five-year anniversary of ‘African Giant’ with a special performance in London, sponsored by YouTube Music, has been an incredible experience.”

Fans who missed the one-off concert can watch it back on Burna Boy’s official YouTube channel for 24 hours. When ‘African Giant’ was released in 2019, NME said the record “demonstrating that he’s one for his people.” The singer recently joined Little Simz and Coldplay on stage at Glastonbury, where they debuted an unreleased song that fans have dubbed ‘We Pray’, expected to feature on Coldplay’s upcoming 10th album, ‘Moon Music,’ that is due out in October.

Burna Boy said, “This album holds a special place in my heart as it represents a pivotal moment in my career and a powerful statement of African pride. Performing these songs for my fans, who have supported me every step of the way, is a reminder of the journey we’ve shared and the cultural impact we’ve made together.” The singer also thanked YouTube Music for sponsoring the event
