She added that she’s spent her career making sure she wasn’t “whitewashed” in the roles she was offered.
Jones elaborates on this plane by saying that she would often read for black parts, but just wouldn’t get cast. She lamented that there weren’t many biracial people that looked like her on TV. Jones appeared in Parks And Recreation alongside Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Rob Lowe, and Nick Offerman. Recently, in an interview with Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Jones revealed that the show “never succeeded” in the ratings and was always close to being cancelled.
Despite not being a hit during its initial run, Parks and Recreation has become quite iconic in recent years. In reflection, Jones revealed that the show had been cancelled at one point before ultimately being brought back again. She said, “At one point we were cancelled, and then the president of NBC got off the plane and changed his mind.” When it came to ratings, Jones shared that they “never succeeded.”
Jones felt the success of the show during the 10th anniversary reunion when the entire cast reunited. Jones said that the cast was “screaming so loud, we were all crying, because we had never been in a room where anybody cared.
