After US President Joe Biden announced that he was stepping down from the 2024 race, acclaimed writer Aaron Sorkin voiced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris. Sorkin, who just recently made headlines with his op-ed piece in The New York Times titled “How I Would Script This Moment for Biden and the Democrats,” had suggested that the Democrats should nominate Republican candidate Mitt Romney instead in a bid to end the party’s troubles with their recent campaign.
However, after Biden announced his decision to step down, Sorkin quickly switched sides and threw his weight behind Harris, stating “I take it all back. Harris for America!” Sorkin is best known for his work in television shows such as The West Wing, as well as movies like The Social Network.
This announcement was later confirmed by a Sorkin spokesperson, and was applauded by fans and fellow celebrities alike. Biden had faced increased scrutiny following a disastrous debate performance back in June, with notable public figures such as George Clooney and Stephen King among many others calling on him to step down as candidate.
Sorkin had earlier revealed plans to write a follow-up to The Social Network with a focus on the January 6 riots. He had blamed Facebook for the event and has promised to explain further once the script for the sequel is complete.
With Biden throwing in the towel and showing his full support and endorsement for Harris, the Democratic Party looks to be back on track, with many supporters of the party hopeful for the future. It remains to be seen whether the Republicans will put forth a strong candidate to challenge Harris in the upcoming presidential race
