Rapper Denzel Curry has just released his latest single ‘HOODLUMZ’, featuring a collaboration with A$AP Rocky and PlayThatBoiZay. The single comes as a prelude to his album ‘King of the Mischievous South Vol.2’, which released on July 19. This collaboration is the first time the two rappers have worked together, and the outcome is impressive. The trio tackle a bold and heavy Southern hip-hop beat in the song, with A$AP Rocky making several references to other musicians. This includes giving a shout-out to Eminem and making a reference to Playboi Carti’s track ‘R.I.P’.
The album’s finale is ‘HOODLUMZ’, which comes just before the outro track. ‘King of the Mischievous South Vol.2’ follows on from Curry’s 2012 album ‘King of the Mischievous South Volume One Underground Tape 1996’. The artist was heavily influenced by 1990s southern hip-hop that gave birth to many artists like DJ Screw, Three 6 Mafia, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, Tommy Wright III, and The Geto Boys.
In his latest creation, Curry incorporates numerous artists from different eras, including 2 Chainz, Project Pat, Juicy J, A$AP Ferg, Ty Dolla $ign, Ski Mask the Slump God, and Maxo Kream. Kingpin Skinny Pimp has also contributed to three tracks – the track intros, outros, and interlude. Curry has recently appeared on BBC Radio 1’s Rap Show alongside PlayThatBoiZay, where he delivered a captivating freestyle.
Curry is part of the lineup performing at Reading and Leeds 2024 events, returning for the August Bank Holiday weekend this year. Tickets are already available for both locations and can be purchased through the official website
