Rough Trade has launched a pop-up store in one of London’s cultural landmarks, celebrating the capital’s thriving music scene both past and present. A curated selection of vinyl records will be available for visitors to browse and purchase at the Barbican Shop from July 2024 until the end of the year. Among the selection will be Rough Trade’s choices of new and emerging music from the independent scene, records by some of the most influential names in music to come out of London, and albums by artists who have performed headline shows at the Barbican.

The collaboration between the Barbican and Rough Trade is the latest in a series of partnerships between the two organisations, which brought together the shared ethos of championing live music and alternative artists. The record store celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special Barbican show in 2016 featuring performances by The Pop Group, Scritti Politti’s Green Gartside, John Grant, Protomartyr, and more. The new pop-up store reinforces the shared roots between the two organisations, both of which are dedicated to celebrating the city’s thriving music scene.

The pop-up store at the Barbican coincides with the launch of Rough Trade’s new merch collection that reflects the record store’s love for music, art, and creativity. For the next six months, visitors to the store can expect a record shop experience that complements the Barbican’s contributions to music and culture. The partnership unites two of London’s music icons, and Lawrence Montgomery, Managing Director of Rough Trade UK, is excited to work together to bring something fresh and inspiring to the community.

Head of Retail at the Barbican, Jo Davis, said the organisation was thrilled to collaborate with Rough Trade, a true icon in the music world. The selection of vinyl records on offer represents some of London’s finest artists, as well as musicians who have performed at the Barbican from groundbreaking contemporary artists to legendary performers. The collaboration highlights the diverse and rich musical heritage that is a hallmark of the Barbican’s music programme.

The Rough Trade pop-up store is located in the Barbican Shop on Level G & M at the Barbican Centre. It is open from Monday to Friday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
