Taylor Swift’s latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ is leading the albums race in the US, with Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’ topping the most-streamed songs. In the first half of 2024, Swift’s album earned 4.66 million equivalent album units (EAUs) since its debut on April 19, the biggest album of the year so far. The album even spent the first 12 weeks at the top of Billboard 200, achieving the feat of being the first album by a woman on the chart. Traditional album sales of 2.47 million also made the album the top album seller, virtual or physical.
EAUs consist of track equivalent album sales besides traditional album sales and streaming, with each unit equaling one album sold or ten individual tracks sold from an album. The other categories include 3,750 ad-supported on-demand official audio and video streams from a single album, or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official and audio streams from single albums. Meanwhile, Swift’s 1989 and Lover ranked 9th and 10th in the best-selling album list, behind Morgan Wallen, Beyoncé, Noah Kahan, and SZA, among others.
Benson Boone’s song ‘Beautiful Things,’ which reached #2 on Billboard Hot 100 in March, clocked 448.7 million clicks, topping the list of the most-streamed songs. The closest followers were ‘I Remember Everything’ by Zach Bryan featuring Kacey Musgraves, followed by the likes of Hozier, Kendrick Lamar, and Teddy Swims. The tracking period began from December 29 and lasted until June 27, and Luminate, the data tracking company, analyzed and compiled the data.
Swift is currently on her ‘Eras Tour,’ where she will return to the UK, where ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is the year’s biggest album so far, for five more dates at London’s Wembley Stadium. The tour will conclude with a North American leg in November and December. Her Edinburgh show was rated five stars by NME. Fans have witnessed an arena show that produced a community, with strangers swapping friendship bracelets, chanting slogans, and having fun.
