Massive Attack’s upcoming ACT 1.5 decarbonisation show “may be their last” in Bristol

Massive Attack will be performing their ACT 1.5 show in Clifton Downs, Bristol on August 25. This homecoming show marks the band’s first performance in the UK in five years. The show will feature a “large-scale climate action accelerator”, promoting new standards of decarbonisation of live music.

As the event is launched to celebrate 25 years of climate activism from Massive Attack, it is expected to be the “first physical fruition” of the collaboration between the band and climate scientists and analysts. The show’s visuals will be created with the help of documentary filmmaker Adam Curtis and United Visual Artists.

According to a press statement, the band suggested that the upcoming show “may be the last time” they play in Bristol, hence, efforts will be taken to ensure an enriched experience for attendees. Killer Mike, Lankum, Sam Morton, and The Wild Bunch’s DJ Milo have been confirmed as supporting acts for the event.

The show has been named ACT 1.5 in response to figures shared by Copernicus Climate Change Services, which reveal that global temperatures have been over 1.5C higher than their average pre-fossil fuel level for 12 consecutive months. To keep the event as green as possible, there will be a number of measures taken, such as additional train services, 100% renewable energy, plant-based food outlets, a reusable cup system, compost toilets, and no private car parking.

Furthermore, the show production will be pioneering in all aspects of decarbonisation and will create a blueprint for the future of live shows. The band has put in place 25 different measures, and two legacy measures, including the creation of a new and permanent climate-resilient woodland of 19,150 native oak trees, and the development of a power substation to provide energy for future festivals and events. Tickets for Massive Attack’s ACT 1.5 show are available for purchase on their official website
