In a recent interview with Bill Maher, actor Armie Hammer spoke candidly about his experiences with the numerous accusations of sexual assault and misconduct that were made against him in 2021. Despite being dropped by his agent and publicist and leaving several film projects, Hammer explained that the experience has actually made him “happier than ever.”

Hammer revealed that he has been in therapy to cope with the fallout from the allegations, which he denies. He said that “therapy for me has been a life changer… I needed an adjustment. There was some shit going on. Here’s what I think would have happened had none of this gone on… My life would have kept going exactly as it was, and I know that would ultimately only lead in one place and that’s death.”

Hammer explained that the experience was an “incredibly liberating” one, in spite of his financial and career setbacks. “The good place only comes from walking through hell,” he said. “It was a brutal experience,” but ultimately “I’ve never been happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life.”

Hammer went on to explain that the emotional and financial fallout was worth it, so that he could get to a place where he no longer cares about how he is perceived by others. “Because so much of my life leading up to there, it was two things,” he said. “It was being preoccupied with how I was perceived, which now you don’t have to care about. Once everyone just decides that they hate you, you go, ‘Oh, well then I don’t need anything from you people any way. I guess I should just learn to be content with myself.'”

Hammer has also previously addressed claims of sexual misconduct from two women in 2021, admitting that he emotionally abused them while denying any criminal wrongdoing. He revealed in the same interview that he was sexually abused aged 13 and attempted suicide in the wake of the allegations.
