US rapper Wiz Khalifa has found himself in trouble with the law after smoking weed on stage during a music festival in Romania. Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, was performing to thousands of fans at the Beach Please! Festival in Romania over the weekend when he lit up a joint during his performance. Cannabis remains illegal for recreational use in Romania, which is why Romanian prosecutors – the DIICOT – are investigating the matter.
Footage of the rapper being arrested by police officers quickly spread across social media, prompting Khalifa to tweet an apology for smoking on stage. He said: “Last nights show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.” The Hollywood Reporter quoted a press release from the Romanian DIICOT: “During a music festival held in the Costinești resort, Constanța county, [Khalifa] possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (onstage) another amount of cannabis under the shape of a craft cigarette.”
According to Metro, the rapper was questioned by Romanian authorities yesterday (June 14) before being released from custody. Last year, Khalifa admitted to consuming magic mushrooms before throwing the first pitch at a baseball game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Guardians.
