Actor Alec Baldwin has taken to social media after the dismissal of the case against him in connection with the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film ‘Rust’. A revolver that was being used as a prop by Baldwin fired a live round, fatally injuring Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. A New Mexico judge dismissed the case on 12 July over what she described as “critical” evidence that the state had withheld from the court. Baldwin had been seen breaking down in tears at the announcement of the ruling.
Baldwin used Instagram to thank supporters for their help during the investigation, saying that there were “too many people who have supported me to thank just now”. He went on to say: “To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.” Many comments in support of the actor were posted, including some made by celebrity friends of Baldwin such as Jeremy Renner and Ricky Martin.
Following the announcement of the dismissal, it was revealed that Baldwin’s legal team had filed a motion claiming that prosecutors had deliberately hidden bullets that had been turned over to investigators in March. This evidence, they claimed, was relevant to the case. The motion also argued that investigators had misrepresented evidence during their inquiry.
