The new horror thriller Longlegs is set to be released soon, starring Nicolas Cage as the titular character. Directed by Osgood Perkins, the film follows FBI agent Lee Harker, portrayed by Maika Monroe, as she investigates a series of unsolved murders linked to Longlegs, a mysterious figure. Other cast members include Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, Dakota Daulby, and Kiernan Shipka.
In a recent interview with the New Yorker, Cage revealed that he based his character’s vocalizations and movements on his mother, Joy Vogelsang. The actor clarified that his mother was not satanic, but that there were certain tics and vocalizations from his childhood that helped him get into the headspace of the Longlegs character.
Producers of the film were careful not to release any images of Cage’s look in the film before its release, even to his co-stars. Monroe reportedly had an alarming heart rate of 170bpm the first time she saw Cage in full Longlegs character.
Early reviews of the film have been positive, with NME giving it a four-star review. They praised Monroe’s performance as Harker and hoped that she wouldn’t be pigeonholed as a Scream Queen. As for Cage, they called his performance another worthy addition to his canon of crazies and possibly his most bonkers role yet.
