American rapper LL Cool J has released a new single from his new album, The Force, which is set to have a star-studded tracklist. The 14-track album has been produced entirely by A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip and features artists such as Eminem, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes and Saweetie. This is the rapper’s 14th album and first LP in 11 years.
The album’s second single, “Passion”, features laid back beats with relaxed vocals from LL Cool J taking a dig at his haters. In addition, LL Cool J revealed the album’s artwork as well as the entire tracklist on his official social media accounts. The album is set for release on September 6 on Def Jam Recordings/Virgin Music Group.
In an interview, the rapper shared how recording the album helped him relearn his craft. He explained how he went “back to the drawing board and learning how to rap again,” citing the likes of LeBron James and Steph Curry as inspiration. LL Cool J also mentioned that he aims to be an “anomaly” by taking 10-15 years to return to music and still having creative impact.
Pre-orders for the album are available now and fans can expect LL Cool J to come back into the hip-hop scene after taking a break from music.
