An individual, who is 17 years old, has been apprehended under suspicion of attempting murder and a public order offence with religious aggravation against two women at a gurdwara in Gravesend. The Kent Police force was called to Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara on Saddington Street on Thursday last week, which is recognized as one of the most significant Sikh complexes internationally beyond India, at around 8.10 pm BST. They said that individuals who were located there had been threatened by someone wielding a sharp object.
Two women, who were among those in the region, received severe cuts and bruises and were promptly subjected for medical treatment. Fortunately, no one was critically injured in the episode, according to Kent Police. They also stated that they had discovered a bladed weapon in the region and were not asking for anyone else’s assistance to sort out this matter at the place of worship. An “isolated incident” was being reported, according to Detective Superintendent Ian Dyball.
The gurdwara’s governance unit released a statement indicating the occurrence happened in one of its Darbar halls, thanking the security team for identifying the perpetrator, and the Kent Police for their timely arrival. In the meantime, inquiries remain underway, and officers are patrolling the building’s exterior.
