One of the most successful US sitcoms of the last decade is Abbott Elementary. This mockumentary sitcom is produced by Quinta Brunson, who also portrays the character of Janine Teagues. The show explores the life of teachers in an underfunded public school in Philadelphia, who are filmed by a documentary crew as they strive to succeed against all odds.
Abbott Elementary stars a talented cast, which include Tyler James Williams as Gregory, the second-grade teacher, Janelle James in the role of principal Ava Coleman, kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard played by Sheryl Lee Ralph, and history teacher Jacob Hill portrayed by Chris Perfetti. Lisa Ann Walter also features in the show as second-grade teacher Melissa Schemmenti.
Since its premiere in 2021, the sitcom Abbott Elementary has been awarded four Emmy awards, including Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series for its producer, Quinta Brunson.
The show was renewed for its fourth season in February, just after the third season was released in the US. It is expected to be part of the broadcast schedule for ABC for 2024-2025, which means the show will be released at some point in 2022. UK viewers who want to watch will have to wait a little longer, given the typical delayed release of new episodes on Disney+. Filming for Abbott Elementary’s fourth season will commence in August, and it remains unclear whether the new season will comprise of 14 episodes or return to the 22-episode format used in the second season
