West Midlands Police have released CCTV footage of a man who allegedly started a fire that caused the death of Akashdeep Singh and left four others injured in Wolverhampton on 25 June. The video is expected to help with the investigation into the crime. Singh’s family paid tribute to him through the police stating that he was a kind, deeply religious and helpful person, adding that he was a true hero and their precious son.
Emergency services reacted to a fire that broke out in a house on Plascom Road, East Park shortly after 01:00 BST. Four family members were injured along with Singh, who later died in the hospital. Currently, two from the family, a 52-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy, remain in hospital in a critical but stable condition. Two men, one aged in his 20s and the other in his 50s, were discharged from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries.
West Midlands Police called on members of the public to come forward with any information regarding the incident, noting that the video footage might aid in bringing the suspects to justice. The police released the CCTV footage and photos of the suspect as part of their call on the public for help.
