Taylor Swift has delighted fans in Amsterdam by bringing out a number of surprise tracks during her Johan Cruyff Arena residency. One gig-goer shared footage to prove it of ‘Sweeter Than Fiction’s’ live debut during the ‘Surprise Song’ part of her three-night concert.
“I can’t believe this but I haven’t played this song yet on the ‘Eras Tour’, so that’s fun,” she said, before breaking into ‘Sweeter Than Fiction’.
The song is a 2013 hit written and produced by the American singer-songwriter. It was created as part of the soundtrack for the film ‘One Chance’ about Paul Potts, an opera singer and winner of 2007’s Britain’s Got Talent. Swift’s set list also included her first performance of ‘Mary’s Song’ since 2008.
“You get bonus points if you know the words to this song that I’m about to do because it’s from my first album,” the pop star told the audience as she put down her acoustic guitar and made her way over to a piano.
Swift mashed up ‘Mary’s Song’ with ‘So High School’ and ‘Everything Has Changed’ and remixed the lyrics toward the end to make a nod to her relationship with Travis Kelce, with “I’ll be 87, you’ll be 89 / I’ll still look at you like the stars that shine / In the sky, oh my my my”.
Last month, when performing in Dublin, songwriting legend Patti Smith referenced her namecheck from ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ a track on Swift’s album ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.
