Veteran rock band Deep Purple have unveiled their latest single, ‘Lazy Sod.’ The track is taken from their upcoming album ‘=1,’ which drops on July 19. Produced by Bob Ezrin, the album will be Deep Purple’s first full-length release since 2020’s ‘Whoosh!’ The band has already launched two other pre-release tracks from the album, ‘Portable Door’ and ‘Pictures of You.’ ‘=1’ will include a total of 13 tracks.

According to a post on their official website, the song’s name came from an unlikely source. During an interview, a young journalist asked frontman Ian Gillan about the number of songs he had written. Gillan replied that it was more than 500, but the journalist compared him to Dolly Parton, who has written over 5,000 songs, jokingly calling him a ‘lazy sod.’ Gillan later wrote down the exchange in his notebook and turned it into a song.

The lyrics of the lighthearted song contain lines like “The world’s on fire, and I can’t get my arse out of bed / The world is on fire / There’s smoke all around my head.” A music video for the new track has also been released on YouTube.

Deep Purple is also embarking on the ‘One More Time’ tour, which will take place across five UK arenas. The tour will feature hits like ‘Smoke On The Water’ and ‘Highway Star’ and will begin on November 4 at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena. Other dates include London, Leeds, Manchester, and Glasgow. Tickets are available for purchase on ticketmaster.co.uk.

Despite the commotion outside, the band chose to continue recording and managed to finish the take before hastily wrapping up and leaving, narrowly avoiding arrest
