Kathy Brown, a well-known house vocalist, has released a new compilation album titled ‘Legacy’. The album has been launched to raise funds for her treatment of stage 4 cancer and will be released on July 19 through Glitterbox. It includes new remixes and edits from legendary remixer and house music icon DJ Spen, Michael Gray, Sophie Lloyd, and Moplen, as well as some of Brown’s greatest hits.
Defected’s A&R manager, Seamus Haji explained that when they found out about Brown’s diagnosis, she had told them about her wish to have an album out. They were then able to put together some of her strongest releases, including four new remixes from fans of her work, to create the album. In his words, “I’m excited about this Glitterbox release for one of the fiercest house divas of our time.”
The label will also be hosting a launch party on July 18 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, which will be held at Defected’s London headquarters. Kathy Brown’s road to success began with her work as the lead singer on Praxis’ hit ‘Turn Me Out’. Since then, she has climbed the charts as a solo lead vocalist on several seminal house music hits, including her 1994 hit ‘Joy’ and 2004’s ‘Strings of Life’ by Soul Central.
In January of this year, Brown was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, which later spread to her brain. She underwent an urgent operation and requires ongoing treatment. Her daughter, Chanta Joyner, has set up a GoFundMe page to help support her mother and family during this difficult time. Those interested in pre-ordering the album can do so by clicking here
