During a recent podcast episode of New Heights, Travis Kelce revealed that he was the one who came up with the idea of making an appearance during the “1989” segment of Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour. Kelce made a special appearance on stage with Swift during the “Tortured Poets Department” part of her setlist at Wembley Stadium on June 24. The Kansas City Chiefs tight-end and Swift’s boyfriend was dressed like one of the singer’s backing dancers, and he helped her up after she fell to the floor. Kelce then got Swift ready to perform “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.”
Kelce said that Swift found the perfect part of the show for him to join and it was an honor to stand by a “true showman” like her. Kelce further shared that the inspiration behind his dance moves while on stage with Swift came from Jim Carey’s tap dancing scene in the 1994 film ‘Dumb and Dumber’.
According to Kelce, he always wanted to perform that move but never knew when he should make the move. It was one of his favorite moves of all time, and he was thrilled to pull off the move on stage with Swift. Kelce added that the moment everyone figured out that he was the one on stage with her was pretty jarring, and it took a second for people to figure it out.
Kelce enjoyed the experience, and he was happy that he did not disappoint Swift. He said that his only rule was “do not drop Taylor. Get her to the couch safe.” Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour will make a return to the UK next month for five more dates at Wembley Stadium, and Paramore will serve as opening support again. Swift has inspired countless fans to come out and embrace being part of the Eras family, and with The Eras Tour, she has crafted a marvel of a show with a beating heart.
NME gave Swift’s performance at Edinburgh a five-star review, stating that despite the show being an arena show in a huge venue, Swift and her fans managed to cultivate a community. Fans swap friendship bracelets, laugh and cry together, and embrace the tour’s in-jokes and lore. It’s the power of Swift, an artist who has inspired countless fans
