The Last Dinner Party have begun work on their second studio album, following the success of their debut record, Prelude To Ecstasy. The album was released in February and subsequently became the biggest UK Number One debut album in nine years. Similarly, NME listed the LP as one of the 10 best debut albums of 2024 so far.
During an interview with The Guardian, TLDP revealed they had begun writing material for their second full-length effort “over a two-week session early in May”. The band’s guitar player, Lizzie Mayland, highlighted that the “silver lining” of their rapid rise is that the songwriting process remains exciting for them. “It feels like we’re doing something new,” she said.
Frontwoman Abigail Morris has stated that she is conscious of avoiding the “sophomore trap” of either bettering their debut or trying to reinvent themselves. “If we change, it’s going to be because we want to… a natural, gentle evolution as we go through our 20s,” the singer added.
Despite their growing success, The Last Dinner Party maintain their commitment to social activism. During their recent performance at Glastonbury, Morris called on the crowd to “make the change” at the General Election. “I think we all know who we are voting for, but it doesn’t end with the Tories being kicked out,” she said.
The band is set to embark on a European headline tour this autumn, performing at TRNSMT and Reading & Leeds this summer, following appearances at Roskilde and Rock Werchter. Additionally, the band was crowned the winner of the BBC Sound of 2024 poll earlier this year
