Stevie Nicks was moved to tears during Taylor Swift’s recent concert in Dublin. Swift played her song ‘You’re On Your Own, Kid’ from her album ‘Midnights’ which Nicks had previously thanked her for. The song helped her grieve over the loss of Christine McVie. “That is the sadness of how I feel,” Nicks explained at an Atlanta show last year.
Swift dedicated her live debut of ‘Clara Bow’, a track from ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, to Nicks. This marked the first time the song had been played live. During the dedication, Swift stated “a friend of mine is here who is watching the show is one of the reasons why I or any other female artists get to do what I get to do.” She was referring to Nicks, who has paved the way for up-and-coming female artists.
The significance of ‘You’re On Your Own, Kid’ lies in the depth of Nicks and McVie’s friendship. Nicks shared that they never really talked on the phone but were “like never a minute had passed… we would walk in and it would be like, ‘Little sister, how are you?'”. However, after McVie’s departure from Fleetwood Mac, Nicks was forced to learn how to be on her own. “So, you help me to do that. Thank you,” Nicks said to Swift.
Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour is set to continue with a two-night stop in Zurich, followed by shows in Italy, Germany, Poland and Austria. Swift will close the European leg of the tour in London.
