Normani cancels BET Awards performance after “bad” rehearsal accident

Normani has been forced to cancel her appearance at the BET Awards due to a recent injury. The former Fifth Harmony member was scheduled to perform at the awards show in the US on June 30th. In a statement shared on her Instagram stories, Normani revealed that she had been injured during rehearsals for the event and would therefore be unable to perform on doctor’s orders. Despite being frustrated and disappointed, Normani explained that performing with an injury could delay her recovery.

She went on to share a photo of herself on crutches, with her foot in a walking boot and her knee bandaged. The severity of the injury and how it was sustained have not been disclosed. Normani’s debut album, ‘Dopamine’, was released last month after months of anticipation. In her January announcement, she described the album as “literally the best music she’s ever made” and later described it as “a representation of [her] evolution.”

NME’s Nick Levine awarded the album a four-star review, writing that it “sounds like the (damn) album Normani was meant to make all [along].” Despite missing out on her BET Awards performance, Normani has continued to promote the album, including recently sharing a remix of the track “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B.

Fans took to social media to send their love and support to Normani following the announcement of her injury. The BET Awards saw a number of standout performances from artists including Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, and Migos. Winners on the night included Queen Latifah, Lil Nas X, and Cardi B
